farmers’ market

It’s been a cold spring and summer–just last week we got snow–but the farmers’ market is finally here.

carrots and leeks

Kind of. The real, downtown market doesn’t start until next week. But some enterprising person is attempting to start one on the west end. It was a bit of a pitiful attempt: Four or five booths (despite waived booth fees!) and not many people. Most of the booths were selling items that did not come from anywhere remotely like a farm, but one Hutterite family was there with a limited set of offerings. I picked up leeks and carrots.

The carrots are young and crunchy and sweet, and I’ve got potato soup plans for the leeks.
